The WPPI Memoirs – Saturday

The PWD crew has landed in Vegas for WPPI 2011.  Despite long days and hectic schedules, we’re sharing some of our thoughts and experiences from the year’s biggest photography show.

Alan Weiner – PWD Contributor:

I spent today being a judge for two categories: Wedding Photojournalism and Non-Wedding Photojournalism.  It’s always fun to look at great photographs, and there were some amazing entries today.  I embargoed from  telling  you who won until the complete list is announced on Wednesday, but I can tell you that you shouldn’t miss seeing the images once they are online.  There are some talented photographers out there and they are doing great work.   Having to assign a number to rate the photos was sometimes a gut-wrenching process.  But the head of our judging group, Greg Gibson, made the process much easier.  He calmly framed the discussions amongst the judges and lead us to good decisions.  Greg is a phenomenal photographer with deep roots in the world of photojournalism. Some of my fellow judges are also amazing photographers as well.  Bob Davis from Chicago, Joseph Victor Stefanchik from Texas and Pulitzer Prize winning photographer Deanne Fitzmaurice added great perspective and artistic sensibility to the process.  WPPI sure knows how to stage a great contest.  I might even be tempted to enter next year!
